How Morgan Compliance Group can help
We begin by defining the intended scope, operational context, interested parties and applicable certification or transition position.
A gap analysis is then used to review:
- environmental aspects and impacts
- compliance obligations
- risks and opportunities
- life-cycle considerations
- objectives
- competence
- operational controls
- external providers
- emergency preparedness
- monitoring and evaluation of compliance
- documented information
- internal audits
- management review
- corrective action
- certification preparation
The system is built around the organisation’s actual activities so that environmental commitments lead to controlled operations, measurable performance and continual improvement.
Our consultancy supports, but does not replace, your legal health and safety duties. Advice is given within the agreed scope and relies on accurate information from you. Accreditation and certification decisions are made independently by the relevant bodies. See our Terms of Service for full details.

Frequently asked questions
What is ISO 14001 and is it suitable for our business?
ISO 14001 specifies requirements for an environmental management system. It can be used by organisations of different sizes and sectors to understand environmental impacts, manage compliance obligations, control environmental risks and improve environmental performance.
What is the current edition of ISO 14001?
ISO 14001:2026 is the current published edition and replaced ISO 14001:2015 in April 2026. Organisations with existing certification and certification bodies are progressing through formal transition arrangements. The edition used for a forthcoming audit and the transition timetable should be confirmed with the selected certification body.
When must existing certification transition to ISO 14001:2026?
The current UKAS transition plan requires UKAS-accredited certification bodies to complete their own transition by 30 April 2027 and transition certified customers by 30 April 2029. New certification to the previous edition must stop by 31 October 2027. Individual organisations should confirm their planned transition audit and timetable directly with their certification body because arrangements may be updated.
Is ISO 14001 certification compulsory?
Certification is generally voluntary, but it may be required by a customer, tender, framework, contract or supply-chain arrangement. A business may also implement an environmental management system without seeking certification where its objective is better environmental control and performance.
What are environmental aspects and impacts?
An environmental aspect is an element of an organisation’s activities, products or services that interacts or can interact with the environment. An environmental impact is the resulting change to the environment. The organisation must identify relevant aspects, determine which are significant and establish suitable controls.
Does ISO 14001 certification guarantee legal compliance?
No. ISO 14001 requires an organisation to identify relevant compliance obligations, establish controls and evaluate compliance, but certification is not a guarantee that every legal requirement is being met at all times. The organisation remains responsible for understanding and complying with applicable environmental law, permits and other obligations.
What does life-cycle perspective mean?
A life-cycle perspective means considering environmental impacts that can arise across relevant stages of products and services, including purchasing, design, transport, use and end-of-life where these can be controlled or influenced. It does not automatically require a detailed formal life-cycle assessment.
Can we use our existing environmental documents and combine the system with other standards?
Yes. Existing policies, procedures, registers and records are reviewed first and retained where suitable. ISO 14001 can also be integrated with ISO 9001 or ISO 45001 through shared arrangements for leadership, documented information, competence, internal audit, management review and corrective action while retaining the environmental requirements specific to ISO 14001.
What are internal audits and management reviews?
Internal audits test whether the environmental management system conforms to planned arrangements and operates effectively. Management review is the formal evaluation by senior management of environmental performance, objectives, compliance status, audit results, risks, changes and improvement needs.
How long does implementation take and can you guarantee certification?
Timescales depend on the organisation’s size, locations, environmental risks, operational complexity, available resources, existing controls and certification or transition deadline. Morgan Compliance Group can help identify gaps, implement proportionate controls and prepare for assessment but cannot guarantee the certification decision.
