Practical support

How Morgan Compliance Group can help

We begin by understanding the organisation's activities, workforce, premises, management structure and immediate concerns.

Existing arrangements can then be reviewed against applicable UK requirements, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other legislation relevant to the work being undertaken.

Depending on the agreed scope, support can include:

  • Workplace inspections
  • Suitable and sufficient risk assessments
  • Policies, RAMS and safe systems of work
  • COSHH arrangements
  • Machinery and work-equipment controls
  • Workplace transport
  • Contractor management
  • Worker consultation
  • Training and competence
  • Incident investigation
  • Performance monitoring

Recommendations are prioritised and followed through so that documentation reflects the controls used in practice.

Our consultancy supports, but does not replace, your legal health and safety duties. Advice is given within the agreed scope and relies on accurate information from you. See our Terms of Service for full details.

Frequently asked questions

What type of health and safety support does our business need?

The appropriate support depends on the work activities, workforce, locations, risks, existing competence and reason for seeking assistance. We can begin with a focused review and agree whether the priority is documentation, a workplace inspection, risk assessment, incident support, competent-person assistance or ongoing management support.

Does every employer need a competent person?

Employers must appoint one or more competent people to help them meet their health and safety legal duties. The competent person may be the employer, a suitably competent employee or an external adviser. The appropriate arrangement depends on the organisation, its risks and the competence available internally.

Does using a health and safety consultant transfer our legal responsibility?

No. An external adviser can provide knowledge, assistance and challenge, but the employer remains legally responsible for managing health and safety, controlling risks and implementing suitable arrangements.

Can support be provided for one project rather than an ongoing contract?

Yes. Support can cover a defined document, risk assessment, inspection, incident review or improvement project. Ongoing support can also be agreed where the business requires regular advice, visits, monitoring or management reporting.

Do you provide both site visits and remote support?

Yes, depending on the task. Document reviews, meetings and some advisory work can be completed remotely. Workplace inspections, operational risk reviews and activities requiring direct observation will normally require a site visit.

Can you prepare our risk assessments and health and safety documents?

Yes, where included within the agreed scope. Effective risk assessments and documents require accurate information, involvement from people who understand the work and implementation by the business. Documents should reflect actual activities and controls rather than being produced solely to satisfy a customer or audit.

Can we keep our existing policies and procedures?

Yes. Existing documents and arrangements are reviewed first and retained where they remain suitable. They should only be updated or replaced where requirements, activities, risks, responsibilities or working practices have changed.

When must health and safety arrangements be recorded in writing?

All employers must manage health and safety risks. Where an organisation has five or more employees, it must record the significant findings of its risk assessments and prepare a written health and safety policy. Smaller employers may still benefit from written arrangements and customers or accreditation schemes may require them.

Can you support manufacturing, warehousing and other specialist activities?

Support can be provided across a range of operational environments, including manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, contractor and service-sector activities. The exact scope depends on the hazards involved and whether additional specialist testing, engineering, occupational-health or fire expertise is required.

Can you advise whether an incident is reportable under RIDDOR?

We can help review the circumstances against current HSE reporting criteria and explain the relevant considerations. The formal responsibility for deciding, ensuring and submitting a required report remains with the responsible person under RIDDOR. Not every workplace accident or near miss is reportable.

How long does the work take and can you guarantee compliance?

Timescales depend on the number of sites, complexity, urgency, available information and agreed scope. A timetable and fee are confirmed following the initial review. Morgan Compliance Group can help identify gaps and strengthen arrangements but cannot guarantee legal compliance, prevent every incident or remove the employer’s responsibilities.
